Public Transport - is - great. I do like Berlin for its navigation there's just a few things to be aware of:
1 - ticket machines only accept cards or coins. So go to a shop if you only habe notes!
2 - S bahn means overground or train
3 - U bahn means underground train. S and U are a little confusing but once you get used to the difference in location you'll be well away
4 - Berlin has made a few rearrangements to the tube, make sure you get a recent tube map, double check or ask a friendly german
5 - consider how many journeys you will be making it is probably cheaper to get an All day freedom pass than individual tickets
6 - leave time to get somewhere especially in the evening. Trains are not too frequent, approx every 15minutes
7 - overcrowding, even during rush hour, does not seem to exist!

I am glad we taught you some German, especiall the S and U-Bahn... did you find friendly Germans in Berlin ? They are a dying species :-)
dying species - no way. I LOVE BERLIN, why? because everyone is friendly, if I needed help someone would actually respond, unlike London.
Plus they helped me when I tried to speak German (it maybe different if I lived there though). But in all, very friendly set of people!
