All Gay for Christopher

One of the biggest dates observed by the gay community around the world
sees tens of thousands of people descend on Munich in order to champion
equality and diversity.

Christopher Street Day is celebrated on July 11th and 12th and marks the
anniversary of the 1969 demonstrations against police raids and
discrimination that were prevalent in New York's gay district - and in
particular the Stonewall Inn.

Given that 2009 marks the 30th anniversary of the demonstration, this
year's celebrations are likely to be even more special than on other years,
making this the perfect time to visit the German city.

In Munich, Christopher Street Day has been celebrated since 1980 and has become a major attraction in the city, meaning that those staying in Munich Hotels are unlikely to be far away from the festivities.

A parade - which usually features floats sponsored by political parties, support organisations and commercial bodies - through Munich's city centre marks the opening of the weekend, while a street party on the Marienplatz and Rindermarkt will see a wide range of different presentations, speeches
and open-air music performances taking place.

Christopher Street Day marks the end of Munich's Pride Week, which takes place between July 4th and 12th.

LateRooms.com has identified some hotels to stay in for those heading to Munich. The Hotel Regent, rated 4 stars, has standard doubles available inclusive of breakfast from £67 an night. Located directly in the city centre is the NH Munchen Deutscher Kaiser which has standard doubles from
£84 an night.
