I left the hotel at 11am and didn't return until 7pm - what a day walking round the city, it was nonstop but am I glad it's not as big as London. ...
Getting around Rome is reletively easy for as long as you have a map = this is impertive and it is probably better to have at least two because sometimes the landmarks can be confusing.
However on the third day in the city we decided to hire some bikes, there are bikes all around the city for public use. It costs 50cents for a bike card and 50cents every 30minutes - so not a bad deal at all. You may also find your hotel does free bike hire - so make sure you enquire on arrival.
By bike you can navigate the centre then stretch beyond across the River Tiber and along the water front. There are some magical river side restaurants, clubs and bars - so it is worth one night in the warm Rome air to have a chill out here as you look out surrounded by ancient history.
I must say - the food in Rome is unlike I imagined. I expected exquisite Italian cuisine. Instead it lacked a lot of flavour and were very basic meals.Unfortunate really. You will find Rome exceedingly expensive, but for a short break it is totally worth it.
