Brasilia
Brasilia is the capital of Brazil and it will hit its jubilee anniversary in 2010. Brasilia was built to be the capital city, built towards the centre of Brazil the new city is to help the country become populated and develop economic growth. Rio de Janero was formally the capital sharing responsibilities with Savador da Bahia.
The city is an example of modern day urban design. It is of epic design and size with cosmopolitan influences. It is an extremely open city for gay people with events spanning the year.
Similar to Rio and Salvador Brasilia holds a lot of culture, vibrancy and excitement where you will find plenty of gorgeous people walking the streets.
On an international level, Brazil certainly seems to embrace the gay community with warm loving arms. However the reality can be extremely different. It is believed that over 2,500 gay people have been murdered because of their sexuality since 1960.
The 1989 constitutions of the states of Mato Grosso (Brasilia) and of Sergipe explicitly prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation. As of 2003, discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation was prohibited in 73 municipal statutes, including São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and three state constitutions - this was one of the first internationally.
