Los Angeles

Overview

It's the Capital of celebrity and where all scene queens, kings and masters should be seen. Los Angeles is full of beauty, fashion, style, sophistication and entertainment.

The city boasts large coastal beaches where you would feel lost in Baywatch, Hollywood Boulevard places you in the heart of film land, Rodeo Drive the place to shop, shop shop and Melrose.

West Hollywood is the central landmark for all gays - it is home to all the bars, clubs, restaurants and coffee shops. You need to plan your entertainment in LA because you will need to take a cab everywhere you go.

The weather is superb and the entire area is stunning.

Culture

Los Angeles is very welcoming of tourists and can be a very friendly city, people will be happy to guide you, talk to you and offer advice.

You can enjoy a lot of shopping which is a natural part of nearly everyone's day. LA is very exclusive and sophisticated and most venues will only admit you if you are dressed casual/smart.

It is often extremely quiet in the mornings, so if you want to get a lot done go AM, otherwise mix and mingle with everyone else in the afternoon/evening.

Equality

Well civil unions are recognised in LA under Schwarzenegger...but after all it is the USA.

It is hard to explain the acceptance of LGBT in Hollywood. The silver screen stars don't publicly acknowledge homosexuality, but spend your time in West Hollywood and you will see many familiar faces.

Travel Information

You will need a car or get a cab everywhere you go, the streets are long and buildings are often quite spaced out. It can often be a struggle for tourists. There is the odd bus, but it’s not too reliable.

There are only two other ways in or out of LA – Train or Plane. The latter is quick, easy and worth every penny. Train’s provide a limited service and are often old carts that look like they should have been replaced ten years ago. However, there is plenty of leg space.

In the main city you will have access to the Metro which has a limited number of lines but can help with getting around - this is not ideal for visiting Hollywood and beyond.
