Salvador da Bahia is most gay friendly city of the country. It was the very first Capital of Brazil in the 16th centuries and it´s where all the history, culture, and traditions are still kept.
The culture is basically a mix from the european, indiginean and african ones. We have a strong african influence into our culture as during the slavery time in Brazil, the african slaves were brought to Salvador and then spreaded around the country. You can see it easily in the people, music, food, religion and so.
Salvador is mostly very tolerant towards gay people and a reason for that, that´s basically because we have our own religion which is "Candomblé" (similar with Santeria or even "Voodoo" even though much more complete and complex) where the majorities of the "priests" are gay and also some Goddess are male and female half of the year so as the majority is black and members of the Candomblé. They learnt to respect and treating equally the gay people as into the "Candomblé" religion.
Salvador is the 3rd biggest city of Brazil and it´s the very first capital of the country. It´s located in the northeast of the country. A population of 3 millions of people. Sunny and warm weather mostly all year around. Beautiful beaches, friendly people, the biggest Carnival of the world (2 millions people 24/7 on the streets during the Carnival time), a peculiar cuisine, laidback and relaxing atmosphere. Salvador Gay Pride 2009 will be in Sept.13th.
