Sydney is the most populous City of Australia and located on the Australia´s south east coast. It is the largest city in Australia with 4 Million people.The city is build around the Port Jackson which includes the Sydney Harbour. This is the reason for the nickname the Harbour City.Sydney is famous for its beaches, the opera house and the harbour bridge. Sydney is the sister city of San Francisco and a lot of people would say that Sydney is the centre of gay life in Australia.You need to go to the Oxford Street area, as this is the area where most gay places are concentrated. Additionally the Potts Point areas gentrification in the past decade has seen a large number the sydneys sophisticate crowd flock to the area, including a lareg sector of the gay community. Potts Point, which is known as a Parisien style community, is also likened to the Greenwich Village in New York. Weekends see the numerous outstanding cafes and restaurants packed to capacity with people enjoying fabulous brunches and leisurely lunches. Potts Point also has a large dog culture, where dogs of all shapes and sizes mingle with people at cafes and in the many nearby parks, in a typical Parisien fashion.

Sydney is a truly stunning city, and should at the top of everybodys list of must see places. It is a breathtaking city morning, noon and night, and is a city that is constantly changing in differing light. It will never cease to take your breath away every time you coem to the harbpur and look out across the city. It is a city with abundant natural beaty and endless choices for enjoying the fabulous outdoor lifestyle. From harbour activities, to fine dining and fabulous cheap eats, beautiful parklands, a varies and interesting mix of architecture and design, an eclectic mix of cultures, languages, cuisines....Sydney is a rich and diverse city whichwill never fail to delight and indulge you.

You can compare the Australian gay scene to many other western countries After a long fight, mainly due to the British Christian influence, being gay was accept. Even most of the levels of governments in most states of Australia are now actively act against discrimination.The gay life is still easier in big cities like Sydney compared to the country life.

Gay life is not considered anything unusual in Sydneys inner city lifestyle. Gay and straight reside, work and play along side one another without a second thought. Gay life is celebrated annually with The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, which is a spectacle pilgrimage gay and straight people should make at least once in their life time. There are many gay clubs and bars around Oxford Street, however Gay and straight are welcome at all venues in the inner city area, without predjudice at all.

 

Sydney, and Australia for that matter is famous for its laidback lifestyle, and with that comes a casual easy living attitude to life. Sydney is an extremely tourist friendly city, and travellers never have any problems obtaining assistance, help or advice from a stranger. Friends are easily made and there are always many travellers around so sharing a beer with a local or a fellow traveller is just part of the norm.

 

Bondi Beach area is full of travellers and definately worth the visit. Only 7km out of the city centre, it can be reached by public transport or car. Here you can easily strike up conversation with the person at the next cafe table, and theer is even a section at the north end of Bondi beach which is renowned for the gay hangout. (Alot of people congregate here for the day, after a big night out in Oxford Street). This is a great place to meet other gay travellers and locals alike.

Travel Information

You can fly in to the Kingsford Smith international, which is the largest Airport in Australia.Sydney has a good public transportation system in place. You can use suburban trains and busses to ensure to reach the most areas. You can buy day or weekly tickets which are relatively cheap.In the last years they have improved the trains and busses equipment by adding air conditions.At the harbour you can use ferries to travel between Circular Quay , the lower North Sore and Manly Beach. You can also use ferries to go from the city up to Parramatta River.Of course you can use taxis as well.
