Barcelona

Overview

Barcelona, the heart of Cartalonia and the second largest city in Spain. The city can often be mistaken as the Spanish capital with its sheer size, freshness and quality of life that can be found there.

Barcelona is a twelve month city, with January and February as its coldest months. The magnificent city has seven beaches spanning the coastline.

While Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia, it is bilingual speaking both Catalan and Spanish.

The city has amazing architecture which you could fill your trip visiting.

The gay area is called L'Eixample or nick named GayEixample and is north-west of the center of town within walking distance but can also be reached by Metro from either the Universitat or Urgell stations. If you get off at Urgell take the Villarroel exit. The gay scene is lively and there's plenty of variety. Everything you'd expect from a major city's gay scene but with the added bonus of bronzed Spanish boys all over the place. Eixample is pronounced eye-sham-play.

Culture

Relaxed, flavour-some, exotic, hot, sexy well the list goes on - after all it is the centre of all party-mad mediterranean men and women.

Barcelona has the pretty boys and girls plus a lot of friendliness. You can shop, enjoy coffee, go to clubs, bars or restaurants and there will always be more to see.

The people will help you if you are struggling with the language.

Equality

In 2005 the Spanish Parliament voted in favour to legalize gay marriage, giving final approval to a bill that would make Spain, a predominantly Catholic country, the first nation to eliminate all legal distinctions between same-sex and heterosexual unions.

Unlike other nations who have passed a similar bill this also allows gays and lesbians to be able to adopt on the same par. Canada is the only such country to date to be nearly as liberal as Spain.

Barcelona is a very relaxed and accepting city and often an ideal choice for many gays if London or New York become too much.
