Brussels

Overview

Brussels is the capital of Belgium and considered as the capital of Europe, due to the high number of institutions which are based in Brussels. The city is over 1000 years old. You will find French and Dutch speaking people as both languages are official languages of Belgium. You should start your sightseeing tour from the Grand´Place, because this place is the heart of Brussels.

Culture

Brussels is not really the most accessible place to go as many of the venues are small and scattered around the city. There is a cluster of gay and gay friendly bars and a few saunas around the Kolenmarkt / Rue du Marché au Charbon, near the Grand Place. You will find some clubs but they are not open on a daily basis so you need to make sure to check on opening hours. Nightlife starts late but due to the international visitors you can meet interesting people, by enjoying the beer and chocolate.

One great place to go to is La Démence. This monthly-ish club night has been running for over 15 years and it is still up there with the best in Europe. Busses are organised from Paris, Amsterdam, Cologne and Lille and especially the New Year and Easter parties are just fantastic. The club has three dancefloors, two large darkrooms / cruising areas and DJ's are invited from Ibiza, Paris,... Check www.lademence.be for info and dates.
