Oslo

Overview

Oslo is the capital of Norway. It was established back in 1838 and today it is the largest city of Norway. Through the large gay and lesbian community it is the place to go to Norway and overall you can say it is very gay friendly.The city is divided into different areas. You will find the tourist area round about the Karl Johan street. If you like smaller and more intimate bars and cafes you have to go to Grünerlokka and Grönland district.You find nearly everything in Oslo, starting from shopping centres, gourmet food up to culture etc.

Culture

Norway has a relatively strict alcohol policy and regulations in place.The prices for alcohol is high. Due to this most of the Norwegians have some / or a lot drinks at home before they go out to. So please keep this in mind when you want to go the clubs etc, because those are pretty empty up to midnight. The other thing you need to know is that the alcohol policy is regulated by age and alcohol percentage ( 18 years no alcohol with more than 23% , 20 years you can by everything) and due to this you will find pubs which operates with different age limits, to ensure that they full fill the regulations.Also you will find clubs which have dress codes in place, so the best chance to get in to be dressed nicely…

Travel Information

You can use three different airports to fly into Oslo but two are far away ( 60 or even 110 km) The one you should use is Oslo Airport Gardemoen, as this one is served by a high speed train and only 48 km away from the city. The other way you can use are ferries if you like to use the sea way. There are daily connections from Frederikshaven and Copenhagen    (Denmark) and Kiel (Germany).If you like to travel by train you can use trains coming from Sweden and Dennmark to go to the Oslo Sentralstation which is the main railway station in Oslo. The public transportation system includes metro,tram bus and ferry and local train lines. All of them use a common ticket system.The tram systems has 6 different lines which mainly operates in the inner part of the city. The metro also know as T-bane has also 6 different lines connects the eastern and western suburbs. If you want to use the car you have to pay an entrance fee / toll which you need to pay at one of the entry points. You can either pay by coins or use the electronic system called AutoPASS.
