Lesbos

Overview

Lesbos, the third largest Greek Island is located in the northeastern Aegean Sea and you will find 320 kilometres of coastline.A third of the population (90,000) is living in the capital Mytilene.

The word lesbian is derived from a poem of Sappho born in Lesbos, therefore the Island is frequently visit by lesbian tourist. During 2008 the Island tries to raise a case to forbid the use of term “lesbian” but it luckily the case was dismissed.

Culture

During the last years the climate has changed toward gay visitors but it is still not like Mykonos. In general you can looking forward to a relaxing and enjoyable holiday / trip.

If you go to Lesbos you have to got to Skala Eressos which is locatec roughly 60 miles from Mytiline as it is famous for its three miles of jaw-dropping beach. Here you will also find the women´s beach which is at the northend and it is a nude bathing area. In addition this is a “mecca” for the lesbian community.

If you like animals you are at the right place as well, as Lesbos also attracts many visitors because of its rich animal life and natural beauty.

 

You can stay in different kind of accommodations from modest pensions to large any luxury hotels. The busiest time is starting from the middle of July to the end of August if you like it more quite you should come in May, June or later on in autumn.

 

One of the most popular restaurants is the Sappho Hotel, here you should go to have a nice dinner.

Travel Information

The Best Airport to use is the Mytilene International Airport, which is one of the most important airport for Greek. It is located in the northeast and roughly 6 kilometres away from the capital. You can use buses or taxis to go to the centre if you booked a package you will normally picked up from the Airport.

You can fly to several other cities like Athen, Chios, Limonos, Rhodos Samos and Thessaloniki.
