The origin of feast was started in 1997 by a group of art and community cultural workers. The founders of this community festival are Margie Fischer, Damien Carey, Helen Bock and Luke Cutler. Both of them had worked for the lesbian and gay community in Adelaide. This is one of the major feast events of South Australia. People from all over the world come to take part in this feast. The aim of the festival is to increase the community involvement and to promote the pride, community identity, celebration and cultural diversity. The event gives high standard cost effective management with artistic direction through performance evaluation. Adelaide Feast Festival is annual Lesbian and Gay Cultural Festival. There are various kinds of diverse events such as theatre, cabaret, film, forums, comedy, literature, dance, visual arts, and music, sporting and community events. Adelaide Feast Festival is basically for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer communities. The theme of the festival this year is going to be “Our Place”.
The Feast Festival is a funding festival and funds are raised through different events during the course of the festival. Last year the festival was organized at 29 Venues. There were as many as 156 performances. Additionally three books were launched during the festival as part of the literary event. Workshops covering different themes were also arranged. An Art exhibition was also organized during the festival. More than five hundred artists participated during the festival. The Feast Festival was also the state winner of the AbaF Giving Award at the 2010 AbaF Awards in South Australia. This year’s festival is expected to be attended by greater number of participants.
