The Amsterdam Gay Pride is a yearly gay festival of Amsterdam and it’s initiated in the first weekend of August. In 2012 the festival held on 3rd of August to 5th of August 2012.This event is one of the biggest events of Netherlands. The Amsterdam Gay Pride is started on 1996. Amsterdam is usually called as a "Capital of Happiness", a "Capital of Love" and also a "Capital of Solidarity". The Amsterdam Gay Pride is symbols of basic values were belonging to Amsterdam: tolerance, respect and the most important one, freedom. Freedom which indicates who you are, whatever you starting point, color, belief, sexual orientation.  The main event of Amsterdam Gay Pride is canal parade which contains 80 decorated boats sail along the Prinsengracht. The Canal Parade starts at 2:00 pm. The route follows: at the end of the Prinsengracht, the parade turns left on to the Amstel river, and passes through the Stadshuis / Muziektheater and then to the Oosterdok.

The Amsterdam Gay Pride contains various street festivals, nightclub parties, arts and cultural presentations, and sporting events which will be commenced throughout the week. Amsterdam has the oldest gay concern group in the world and also they had first a gay monument. The very first gay men and lesbian marriage also done here. The last year theme was All Together Now for organizing ProGay and it is the 6th time biggest event in town. In 2008 Amsterdam Gay Pride was selected as the best Gay Pride event of Europe and received the Welcome Award for organizing the most friendly and generous reception or entertainment for the guests to the event.
