The “Johannesburg Pride South Africa” is the annual celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex (LGBTI) community living in and around Johannesburg. The Pride event is held in Johannesburg every year sometime in mid October. The festival lasts for one full week. During this fun filled week a wide variety of cultural events are organized. Different social events meant for the entertainment of the participants are also held as part of the festival celebration. On the seventh i.e. the last day of the festival a grand street gay parade is organized. The last day of the carnival a street parade also held with lots of fun and entertainments. Though the dates for the 2012 event have not yet been finalized, the usual timing for the parade is on first Saturday in October.

The Johannesburg Gay Pride Festival is a not-for profit publicly transparent Section 21 company registered in April 2007 (Registration number: 2007/013596/08).The aim behind having the Pride event is to sensitize the community towards the hardships and the difficulties faced by the people belonging to the LGBT community. The first edition of the “Johannesburg Gay Pride Festival” was held in the year 1990.

Each year, a different theme is chosen for the Pride event. E.g. for the Pride event held in 2011 the theme was "Born This Gay!”. The theme defined the defense of gay rights i.e. the rights of sexual minorities who are victimized on a daily basis. The association also works towards encouraging the society to take actions against crimes faced by the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

 Being gay or lesbian is NOT a fashion statement. Nor is it a sickness or crime. Events like this help people in general to accept this fact .Popular DJ bands will be performing during this Pride event.
