The Mardi Gras Parade is traditionally held on Tuesday. The day on which the Mardi Gras parade is held is also popularly known as the “Fat Tuesday”. The venue for the parade is New Orleans, Louisiana. The Mardi Gras Parade is held on the last day of the Mardi Gras festival. This is a three day long festival which is held every year in New Orleans. Both the festival and specially the Mardi Gras Parade have become very famous throughout the world. The parades in New Orleans are organized by Carnival krewes.

A highlight of Mardi Gras is the spectacular parade that winds its way through the streets of Universal Studios The origin of the parade is in preparation of the Christian season of Lent. The parade has traditionally been part of the winter social season. The actual celebrations start two weeks before the main parade day. These celebrations consist of various parties, balls and king cake parties.  Provided that the climate is suitable, one major parade is planned for each day. In fact, many of the festival days have several large parades lined up. Some of the largest and most elaborate parades take place during the last five days of the season. People not only from surrounding communities but also throughout the world attend the parades in large number.

During the parade there are various krewe float rides which are based on different themes. The riders in these floats throws to the crowds various colorful plastic beads, doubloons (aluminum or wooden dollar-sized coins usually impressed with a krewe logo), decorated plastic throw cups, and small but beautiful inexpensive toys. Major krewes follow the same parade schedule and route each year.

These dazzling colorful floats are one of the most important highlight of the parade event. 

The participants in these floats wear colorful costumes. Throughout the parade route there are street performances. Many dances are also performed during these parades. Overall an excellent festival atmosphere is created which leaves a memorable impression on the people attending this parade.
