Manchester Pride is the annual Gay Pride festival of Manchester. The 2012 pride will be held from 24th of August to 27th of August at Manchester City which is located in the North West of England in the United Kingdom. Being a hugely popular event it is well attended every year by thousands of people belonging to different age groups. The Manchester Pride was held for the first time in the year 1990.The venue for this first edition of the pride event was the Rembrandt Hotel. The idea behind having this first pride event was to collect money for HIV and AIDS causes, particularly for the ward at Monsall Hospital.

This Gay pride celebration in Manchester has been known by different names. Initially it used to be known as the “Mardi Gras “event. 2003. From the year 2003 onwards, the event has been named as the "Manchester Pride". This is only pride which gets large amount for charity purpose. The pride event is organized with the combined efforts of various Pride committees. 

Initially there used to be no fees or entry ticket for the pride event. However from the year 1999 onwards, an entrance fees is charged and the money collected is used for various charity purposes. 

The duration of the pride celebration is four days. During these fun filled four days various kinds of cultural and social activities are held. There is a “Pride Fringe” which consists of art exhibitions and live music. Community activities like poetry reading and quizzes are also there. Many feature films covering wide range of issues related to the problems faced by people belonging to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community are screened during the pride event.
