"You'd be hard pressed to find anything wilder than Berlin's Wigstöckel, which attracts transgendered folk and cross-dressers (male and female) from all over Europe. The festival takes place at the SO36 club in Berlin's Kreuzberg district.Wigstöckel (a pun on wigs and stockings) grew out of the Berlin transgender scene in 1996, inspired by the long-running
New York Wigstock, which used to happpen over the same weekend. Expect the party to be just as wild and crazy, with a real diversity of acts. The event also features a Walk of Fame, recalling icons for the transgender community such as Quentin Crisp and Marlene Dietrich. Watch if you will, but you must be ready to participate too. According to the organisers, ""This is a party for the transgender scene, it's not a zoo for people to come and watch weirdos."" The Open Stage provides an opportunity for any spontaneous newcomer to prove their talents. Things take on a slightly more serious tone in the Forum for Transgender, where support groups and societies for the transgendered community offer information about the scene.
