The International Day Against Homophobia was officially recognised by the French government last year, which represents a major shift, if you’re into your Euro-politics. This year, being rather pleased with themselves, the French government are hosting a world congress against homophobia to mark one year of recognising IDAHO.
It is the first time that Nicholas Sarkozy’s Conservative government has planned an LGBT event at ministerial level; the congress was put together by Rama Yade, French minister for human rights. It will be held at the Human Rights Ministry on 16th May.
Gays around the city will watch for news on what comes out of the high-profile conference, whilst various cultural events will be going on in bars, cafes and museums to mark the day.
