Out of the several gay resort destinations, Fort Lauderdale has made its special place. Last 15 years have seen this place developing fast into the favorite destination place of the gays. The main contribution behind the present great height of fame of this place is the annual Stonewall Gay festival.

The Stonewall Gay festival which is one of the best gay festivals of South Florida is celebrated in the end days of June every year. This festival was started to pay a tribute to the historical Stonewall riot that took place on June 28, 1969 for the rights of the gays and lesbians. This festival was initiated in the year 2000 and from the beginning year itself it managed to maintain its high grade of celebration.

In 2009, the Stonewall Gay festival was held on June 20 and 21. This two-day weekend festival consisted of a large number of events along with a huge street fair that contained near about 150 vendors. The main attraction of the festival, the parade that started from Fort Lauderdale High School and terminated to the Five Points via Wilton Drive was held on Sunday, June 21st. Other than this, several other comical and musical performances were also organized.
