The beautiful town of
Sitges hosts this annual festival in celebration of its patron Sant Bartolomeu. A week of summer fun, the fesival includes music, dance and parades, including a sensational firwork display (on Aug 23rd at 11pm) which can be seen from all over the town or from out at sea. In typical Spanish style, safety regulations are the last thing to be though about. It resembles New Year's eve in Amsterdam. (Those who have been there will know what I mean). Firecrackers are lit off left, right and centre with most emanating from the large dragon's mouth. Beware though, as this Dragon has been know to chase people right down the narrow streets of
Sitges! Great fun to watch. The acrobatics on the street is simply superb. The Castellers will often reach 4 stories high (that's a 6 person-high, human tower). People gather around them to form a human safety net. Sometimes they fall, but most of the time they perform spectacular shows that will take your breath away. A small little child always winds up at the top. Depending on how good they are they can last for several seconds to a few minutes. Be sure to show your appreciation when they finish! Entrance free!
