International Day against Homophobia is a day which is generally celebrated every year on 17thMay. Almost 50 countries use to celebrate this day where each of them is a state of United Nations. Some of these countries are Belgium, United Kingdom, and France etc. main aim of this particular event is to generate respect for lesbians and gays at an international level. This event is not at all similar to LGBT pride day. IDAHO has its main highlight on certain orthodox kinds of philosophies: “It is a kind of homophobia which is a shameful act and must be destructed socially yet fought against openly.”
In about 85 countries it has been observed that lesbians, gays and transgender have to face discrimination in every sector of society. Thus, there should be an international law ‑
which provides equal status to these LGBT people in society. Thus, International Day against Homophobia played an important role in this sector. Main reason behind celebrating this day on 17ThMay was that homosexuality was initially considered as a disease in International Classification of Disease of WHO and on 17thMay 1990 homosexuality was removed from it.
Even though many steps were taken in this field yet there were several countries who have considered LGBT communities as the offensive creatures and their sexual way was also considered as unprotected. According to them they are highly responsible in transmitting HIV. Thus, when this issue was increased at an international level International Day against Homophobia a new life for LGBT Community. It highlights that these people are highly in need of social support. Even many people of this community have lost their lives because of this behavior of government and police. Many kinds of funds and laws were introduced on this day. Main scenario related to the problem of this community was shown by Michele Sidibe who is executive Director of UNAIDS.
