France is a country which takes the written word seriously, and where even a work of fiction can still cause major public debate. It has a very rich history of gay writing, and this summer, there’s a literature festival totally devoted to it in Playa del Inglés (and why not, given the weather and the relaxed atmosphere here). There are workshops, a book fair, themed evenings and exhibitions. This isn’t a minor event, and there are some big names in francophone gay literature attending.
