Ever since the gay rights law has been passed in the USA, homosexuals have started to some out of the closet. Every year all the homosexuals and transgender of the Indianapolis area congregate to celebrate being part of the gay community.

The gay pride parade is one of the main events to celebrate freedom of existence for this group of people who have suffered for a long time due to non supportive laws. The parade can be seen as an exuberant procession, people can be seen celebrating their freedom from discrimination with colors as bright as the rainbow. In this parade all gays, lesbians, transgender   and bisexuals participate teeming with enthusiasm.

The festivities continue with live music and different varieties of cuisines at the civic centre. There are printed t-shirts available in the parade with proud banners proclaiming the homosexual rights.  A lot of the money collected during this parade is taken up for charity causes to help all those who are afflicted by HIV, AIDS and other sexually spread diseases. Last year this festival took place from 6/6/2009 to 6/14/2009. One can apply to participate as a member of a walking group at $25 fee, or enter a parade float at $50.
