Balans, London

Balans is a popular hangout in central Soho. We got there in the middle of the afternoon when it was relatively quiet - a few people having coffee, and a couple taking advantage of the free wifi (which was a bit variable).
However, by 6pm the restaurant was very busy - this seems to be a place that people like to come just after work or prior to going out for a big night. The reason is obvious: the two for one happy hour (5pm to 6pm) produced good cocktails for a decent price and the food was tasty and solid - just what you need after a long day or in advance for a party night!
Service was reasonable - one of our waiters was fun, easy-going and with a big smile. The other was arrogant and looked as though he was having a bad day. We were looking for a socket for our laptop's lead and the manager was very helpful.....
All in all, a good place to go early evening.
