Cairo is not a hotspot for gay clubs, and being open about your sexuality can lead to trouble and even put your life in danger. There are some venues, however, that are not exclusively gay bars, but where gays and lesbians are discreetly made welcome. Jackie’s Joint at the Nile Hilton Hotel is one of those venues. A smart-casual and quite young crowd of liberal Egyptians and travellers tend to gather here for the latino-style house and R’n’B played here, or feast upon the full menu available. With two-for-one happy hours every night apart from Friday and Saturday, and plenty of other offers, Jackie’s Joint is trying hard to bring in the crowds, and mostly succeeds. Members of the club and guests at the hotel receive priority entry, so if either of those applies to you, be sure to drop in and see for yourself.
