Ai Canottieri is not exclusively a gay venue, but draws a mixed crowd of gays and lesbians as well as other passing trade and is very welcoming to all. The food here is great, with a real emphasis on fresh seafood. Decent portions and low (by Venetian standards) prices help to sweeten the deal too. There is a good selection of wines, both standard Italian bottles and a few unusual choices for the more adventurous drinkers out there. The restaurant isn’t all either; if you’re feeling more energetic there is a separate dancefloor where you can get your groove on. Essentially, if it’s out-and-proud gay clubbing you want this isn’t the place, but if you’re looking for a friendly place, hearty food and good wine, give it a go.
