Cafe / Coffee Shop, Reykjavik· CAFÉ / BAR - Trúnó (Truno)
Trúnó is the only official gay café / bar in Reykjavík, owned and operated by Birna Hrönn and Eva María, buisness partners, couple and a dj duo Dj Glimmer. It is a lively café by day and an even livelier bar at night with queer events, great music, excellent beverage selection, varieties of beer & cocktails. The décor of Trúnó speaks to you and on the walls you can read “homo sweet homo” and “drottning lessi heimilið” – loosely translated “may the queen lez this home”. The walls are purple, the discoball is huge, the lights are pink and there are divas and heroes on the walls. Gay magazines and queer library and happy hour between 16:00 and 20:00 each day.
On the menu there are yummy light dishes. Ranging from candy, the ever so popular cocoa puffs to paninis or pizzas. The coffee is fresh, good and hot hot hot, you know, unless you ask for ice-coffee.
The event calendar is nonstop and Trúnó tries to cater to all the different tastes of the queer crowd, to mention some of the past events, lesbian stand up comedy night, screening of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, Diva music theme nights, sushi extravaganza, champagne nights, screening of the world championship in handball, childrens café for gay parents, open mic, women’s night, sports night and the list goes on and on.
Trúnó is the best place to kickstart your weekend evenings and on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights the crowd is gathering at Trúnó earlier than most places. The music is turned up and the drinks flow freely. Take the wheel of fortune for a spin and see if the cute one next to you hasn’t got some plans to continue the evening at Barbara, the gay night club upstairs.
