The rainbow flags which hang outside the "Intermale" bookshop, pinpoint one of the largest bookshops in Europe. The "Intermale" devoted itsself entirely to books of interest to the gay male and offer exclusively gay and gay-related titles. Immediately inside the door you find a wide selection of periodicals and videos, as well as gay guides and material on Amsterdam. They have a large selection of books in English, Dutch, German and French, as well as greeting cards and photographic publications from many places around the world. Selected rare items like books and photographs of homoerotic interest are displayed for sale in the antiquarian area. You get titles on almost every topic which may be of interest to gay men like for example fiction, autobiography, reference works, poetry or pictorial items. Since 1984, the shop has been providing a respected and first-class service for residents as well as for visitors.
